Years ago I started a process as an experiment. I had recently gotten into abstract painting, and I was fascinated by the process of starting a piece without knowing where it was going to go. I was also obsessed with the space between consciousness and subconsciousness, where you feel a familiarity and comfort, but you can't place where it is coming from. So I decided to merge my photoshop and photography experience with my traditional art experience and I decided to start with an old photograph I had taken and see where I could go with it to remove is conscious qualities and turn it into something new. I thought this would be a one time exploration of visual aesthetics and it has turned into an ongoing project with over 600 images that each start as a single photograph I've taken and go through their own unique process as I try to discover their abstract beauty.
